These "checked" or "diced" Scots bonnets were common among the Flathead, Kalispel and Coeur d'Alene Tribes in the 1840's time period. They can seen in the artwork of Father Nicholas Point, Gustave Sohon, Peter Rindisbacher and Paul Kane to name a few.

My sewing skills were largely self-taught in my 20s when I had a business making cycling caps from wool and cotton fabrics. I then learned more about industrial sewing while working one summer as a sewer in a small boot factory in Oregon. Combining this knowledge with my interest in hand sewing historical caps and garments has given me some techniques to be able to offer my customers price ranges of machine sewn vs. hand sewn goods. The sewing machine can often allow me to speedily create mock-ups of certain items to test the fit before cutting into good fabric or buckskin. You can see the variety of items I sew above. Prices depend on materials, sewing method, and time involved. Please check my Etsy Shop for what items I have in stock or feel free to contact me for custom orders.
